TORONTO -- A Scarborough man is dead after being run over by a car several times times and then viciously hacked to death by an unknown assailant wielding a machete.
Inside the cordoned off crime scene, the victim's running shoes, jeans and bloodied shirt were strewn across several lawns and in the intersection of Huntsmill Boulevard and Longbow Square in Scarborough, near Warden and McNicoll avenues.
Deep tire marks could also be seen cutting across the lawns of two homes.
Duty Insp. Mary Lee Metcalfe said emergency services were called to the scene about 10 a.m. yesterday to find the battered and bloodied man, in his mid-20s, fighting for his life before being transported to Sunnybrook hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"At this time there was a call for a dispute between two male parties and an injury to one of the male parties," said Metcalfe. "Upon arrival at the scene one of the males had substantial injuries."
Police didn't reveal details of the dispute, the victim's name or whether a machete had been recovered. Police said they took three eyewitnesses to 42 Division for questioning about the incident.
Most of the neighbours, like Sandi Punit and her husband Raj, said they didn't witness the altercation but saw police and EMS loading the victim into an ambulance.
"I could see blood all over him before they loaded him into the ambulance," Punit said.
A man, who identified himself as Myuran, said he knew the man who was slain.
"He was my friend. His brother phoned me and told me to come here," said Myuran, 27, who kept wiping his eyes and shaking his head.
"His brother said he had got stabbed or something. And I didn't believe it at first," said Myuran. "I told him I was coming right now."
Myuran identified the slain man as Pirdeep and said he has known him for the last 14 years since they both went to high school at Marc Garneau in East York.
