While ANNA NICOLE SMITH remains secluded at her home in the Bahamas, our KEVIN FRAZIER is uncovering answers to the tragic, mysterious death of her son and the birth of her daughter by going one-on-one with her former boyfriend, LARRY BIRKHEAD.
While no one has yet seen the baby girl -- who is reportedly called HANNAH -- Birkhead says he is the father.
"I was told that I was the father," he tells Kevin. "I've gone to the doctors, I've seen the ultrasounds, and I've put my hands on the mother's tummy to listen to the baby."
But that was months ago. Now the photographer says he's been pushed out of Anna Nicole's life and that he only learned about the baby's birth -- including her name -- through the media.
"Actually," he says, "I was on ET's Web site and saw that the baby's name was Hannah. I think it's a beautiful name. I was just shocked that that's the way I had to find out. Everything I've learned, I've had to stay glued to a TV. That's not the way it should go down."
Birkhead says that Hannah is the result of a relationship that started in 2004, when he was hired to take photos of Anna Nicole. He says their romance was kept under wraps, but last year Anna Nicole did tell one newspaper: "Larry keeps me occupied, so I don't have to worry about being lonely anymore."
Larry says he even accompanied her on visits to the doctor and that they started a baby book together. But in May, when he was linked to unofficial pregnancy rumors, he was on the outs. Then, Anna Nicole left the country and headed to the Bahamas.
"The reason I was told she went to the Bahamas was if a baby is born [there] and the mother is a resident, it would be harder for a father who wanted to participate in a baby's life to be able to do so."
It was, of course, in the Bahamas where Anna Nicole's son, DANIEL, died at her bedside. During his time with Anna Nicole, Larry got to know her son, who he says appeared to be a healthy young man.
"He was a great kid," he says. "Never any problems, always fun to be around. We always joked and teased each other and I always found him to be really intelligent. He had a great sense of humor." But, he adds, "I'm not trying to be insensitive about her loss, unfortunately, I can't change the fact that Daniel died, but there's a life there you have to worry about, too."
Birkhead says he worries most when he reads reports of Anna Nicole's heavy sedation and memory loss.
"If you're hearing crazy things like memory loss, that right there signals to me that there is a need for the father more than ever," he says. "You just have to hope and pray that someone responsible is taking care of the baby."
Birkhead blames the people around Anna Nicole for keeping him out of the picture. And now he says he's ready to exert his parental rights.
"If someone wants to say to me 'You are not the father of this baby,' then I challenge them to come forward, come back to the States and we'll take a paternity test," he says. "If it's proven I'm the father, like I've been told, like I feel in my heart that I am, then I just want to be part of the baby's life."
Kevin goes in-depth with the alleged father of Anna Nicole's baby girl on tonight's ET.
