Our cat has a lump. They did bloodwork today and we'll schedule surgery for him.

Cancer? I don't know, but it's a possibility. He's 14 years old and he was my first pet that was MY pet. Marlie loves him and he loves her. He's our cuddler and he's just really intuitive when it comes to our emotions. He's easily the most 'human' of our cats and the idea something is wrong is eating me up.

So any thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.

I had a dog once that had lumps, I think he was around 12...turned out to be some fatty deposits due to age. We had the largest one removed and tested for cancer. So hopefully it's just a lump from age and not cancer. (((HUGS)))

Tough one. Hope it's just a cyst - those seem pretty common in cats and dogs. Hang in there.

I was thinking it might be a cyst and asked the vet if he could try to do a needle aspiration. He said it was hard, so no...he has to have the lump removed.

A human friend had one that was hard - so they removed it - and it turned out to be benign after all. Seems there's always a good chance of that.

I got home from work tonight and listened to messages on the answering machine. The vet called about the bloodwork they drew on Darren. His BUN and Creatinine are up (not drastically) and looks likes he's heading toward some kidney dysfunction. Doing surgery to remove the lump would be very dangerous and make the kidney situation worse. So no surgery. He was also going to extract some teeth in the back (upper and lower) because he has what they call "neck veins' which is some kind of bleeding in the teeth and also painful. So he mentioned a long term antibiotic therapy for the teeth and go from there. I'm going to call the vet back tomorrow and talk to him about all this and figure out what to do.

As we well know......these kidney problems in cats SUCK since we just lost Tamara over it. But Tamara's blood work showed more severe kidney problems than Darren's does. But I still want to take care of it so it DOESN'T get as bad as Tamara's. I can't go thru this again! NOT this soon after losing her!

I'm so sorry! I hope you can work something out with the vet to help her! (((Hugs)))
