Prostitute Quizzed Over Severed Arm Tuesday September 12, 12:26 PM
A prostitute who had her arm severed after being thrown from a car is set to be quizzed by police about her ordeal. Gillian Gilchrist, 29, is recovering in Glasgow Royal Infirmary after losing her limb in what police described as a "horrific" murder attempt. She was found wandering along the westbound M8 motorway near Arkleston, in Paisley, Renfrewshire, early on Sunday morning, close to where officers believe she was bundled out of a car.
The bone in her left arm had been snapped four inches above the wrist, with the lower part of the arm being torn away.
It was later found 100 yards away but surgeons were unable to reattach it.
Detectives are investigating whether Miss Gilchrist lost the limb while being pushed out of a moving car.
Det Insp Steve Wilson from Johnstone CID said: "That is potentially what happened, but we are looking at a wide range of possibilities.
"We are still researching the cause of the injury. This was a horrific injury to sustain."
Mr Wilson said the use of any form of bladed weapon to cause her injury had been ruled out but officers were still treating the incident as an attempt on her life.
The victim's ordeal happened a couple of hours after being picked up by a man in a dark saloon in Glasgow city centre. Officers have appealed for that person to contact them directly.
The victim's sister Debbie, 21, spoke of the family's horror at the attack, branding whoever was responsible for the attack as "sick".
She told the Scottish Sun: "I don't understand why someone would want to do that to a lassie, they are sick.
"I hope they find ... who did this to my sister and lock him up for a long, long time. In a way Gillian is lucky because she could well be dead. She has a second chance."
