Do you let them roam the house at will? Like the table, countertops, top of the fridge - everywhere?
Our cats aren't allowed on food prep surfaces but I do let them go on my desk (I have a mat there for them).

When I had cats they weren't allowed on counters, tables etc, but were allowed on couches etc.

I was curious because we know people whose cats go everywhere - I was quite startled to see her prepping food (we didn't eat there - lol) with the cat sitting next to her on the counter watching.
I thought that was a bit - um - icky.

My aunt has two cats she feeds on her kitchen table to keep the dog from eating their food and then they just move the bowl and sit down and eat. No wiping the table up or anything. My dh the germaphobe freaked out big time! They sit on her counter and drink from her tap.

I'm not a germaphobe (far from it - lol) but I can't imagine not wiping the table off after the cats are on it.
Everyone does something different though!

The cats are allowed to go everywhere except counters and tables. My silly kitten keeps laying on our flattop stove and it stays hot for awhile after using it. One of these days he is going to get a surprise!

my cats go wherever. they are too stubborn to listen to anything else. i clean everything before preping food though, even if the cats havnt touched it. they, however, generally dont like being on the counters

ROTF, I did that a time or two! I had one that would run in when I was taking canned goods out. I'd never seem him go in though. He was always by the door sleeping when I'd go hunting for him.

Our cats aren't allowed on the counters, top of refrigerator, on the kitchen table, or on any other "table". They can have the floor, the couches, chairs, and the beds. Now, having said that, I can't say that they listen and stay off things they aren't allowed on. Freaky little Nemo goes on the counters and now has figured out to jump off as I'm coming down the stairs. Then he gives me the old Bart Simpson thing - "what, no body saw anything, can't prove anything".

LOL, Lisa ... Frodo often hides "in" the cupboards - the kdis sometimes forget to close the doors and he will sneak in them. I'll come along and close it (not realize he's in there) and not too much later hear the most pitiful "Meeeeooooow???? Meeeeeooooow?" LOL

I have two cats that actually open the cupboard doors themselves. They don't go in the cupboards (floor ones) but they just open them. If I don't close the linen closet all the way, it'll be standing wide open when I walk by it again. We've thought about baby proofing the cupboards. Silly felines.

I hate cats on the tables and benches. My neighbour lets her cats go on her and i have even seen her cat jump up eat off a plate, she got it down and continued to eat off the same plate the cat had just been at!!!

Our cats aren't "allowed" on tables or counter tops.....but have caught them there. Once they see us...and we start to say something----they're off.

Hello! I'm a newbie. :D
I don't allow my cats to be on my counters, they are forbidden from my daughter's room, and they also cannot be on certain furniture. They're pretty good about it usually, but I have the spray bottle handy, just in case. ;)

Do U let them roam the house @ will? Like the table, countertops, top of the fridge everywhere ?
Well ... our cats all LIVE OUTSIDE just how many do we have well we have had our share of cats since living here but the most recent explosion was when our female cat ... tinkerbell gave birth in April 2006 to 7 kittens & then in August she had 7 more so do the math ... 14 kittens in 4 months.
To keep this short we are down from 14 to 8 kittens { 5 males from April & 2 boys & 1 girl from August } and the sad part is that :icon_sad: mommy cat was found dead along the side of the road.
To reply to the above question ...
NO they have no free reign of the house except for the basement & that is ONLY if we bring them in & hold them. Our mom cat ... BLEW that RULE by jumping on the table right in the middle of us eating CHICKEN & landed right in the middle of the CHICKEN on my daughter's plate so ... NO CATS ALLOWED except ... when we bring them in { I will have some pictures soon }

I'm not strict with cats here because they've never really had rules, but when Chris and I were in the apartment we were very strict with Zachary and he adjusted well. So one day when we have a place we'll probably go back to being strict. :)

Our cat lives both inside and outside I dont like her on the counters but at the moment she comes in the kitchen window and climbs on one of them but I always disinfect it before I prepare food on it. She's not allowed in the sitting room but I've caught her in there when we've left the door open. Mainly tho she likes the dogs basket in there so I dont mind that I just dont want her up on the piano and furniture. I also dont like her in the spare bedrooms but the day was nice yesterday and I opened the windows to let in some air that evening I heard meowing coming from one of the rooms grrrrrrrrrr stupid cat but I do love her and I know she's spoilt
