As most of you know, my Chihuahua, Freckles, has Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia.
It's pretty serious because her body is attacking her platelets. She's been on Prednisone since August 21st when she was at her worst. She couldn't even stand up then and was on the verge of death. She was basically just hours away.
Well, she made a turn around and was getting better until 4 weeks ago. She's been going to the vet every 2 weeks for blood draws to check her blood count. Well, 4 weeks ago it started to go back down again. They decided that it wasn't too significant so they decreased her Prednisone again.
She started on 5 mg, then went to 2.5, then down to 1. Dogs can't stay on it very long term because it can cause some pretty bad things to happen after a while.
Well, 2 weeks ago her numbers took a really big dip so they had to increase it back up to 2.5 mg.
Tomorrow morning I take her back in to see if there is improvement or if she's staying the same.
We (Kyle & I and the vet) are discouraged because basically what that tells us is that she can't tolerate coming off of the Prednisone right now or even having her dose decreased that much.
So, please keep her in your thoughts tomorrow that we'll get good blood results back.
She's such a sweet girl. We love her very much and she means so much to us.
Melanie even has a t-shirt with her on it. ;))
